Presenting Research at the Multidisciplinary International Conference: “Designing Identities”I had the privilege of presenting two of my research papers at the Multidisciplinary International Conference – “Designing Identities: Intersections of Art, Architecture, Culture, Religion, Science, Technology & Society”, organized by Sarvajanik University in collaboration with MITRAJ – Institute of Design, Planning and Technology on 25–26 February 2026.The conference provided a unique interdisciplinary platform that brought together scholars, researchers, practitioners, and students from diverse fields to explore the complex relationships between identity, culture, design, technology, and society. The exchange of ideas across disciplines highlighted the importance of collaborative thinking in addressing contemporary social and spatial challenges.During the conference, I presented two research papers that examined urban development and the social dimensions of sustainability from different yet interconnected perspectives.

From Historic Core to Metropolitan Hub: Pathways to Inclusive and Resilient Urban Development in Chennai

This paper explored Chennai's transformation from a historic settlement into a major metropolitan center. The study examined the opportunities and challenges associated with rapid urbanization, focusing on issues of inclusivity, resilience, governance, infrastructure, and sustainable growth.The research emphasized the need for integrated planning approaches that balance economic development with social equity, environmental sustainability, and cultural preservation. As cities continue to expand and evolve, building resilient urban systems remains essential for ensuring long-term livability and prosperity.

Religion as a Social Institution: The Significance of Faith in Community Cohesion and Sustainability

The second paper investigated the role of religion as a social institution and its contribution to community cohesion and sustainable development. The study examined how faith-based values, social networks, and collective practices influence social capital, community engagement, and resilience.The research highlighted that beyond spiritual dimensions, religious institutions often function as important community anchors that support social well-being, foster collective identity, and contribute to sustainable social development.

Reflections on an Interdisciplinary Learning Experience

One of the most valuable aspects of the conference was the opportunity to engage with scholars and professionals from diverse disciplines. Discussions ranged from architecture and urban planning to culture, technology, science, and social studies, demonstrating how complex societal challenges require interdisciplinary perspectives and collaborative solutions.Such academic platforms play a crucial role in encouraging dialogue, knowledge exchange, and critical thinking. They provide researchers with opportunities to share findings, receive constructive feedback, and build meaningful networks that can lead to future collaborations and innovation.I extend my sincere gratitude to Sarvajanik University and MITRAJ – Institute of Design, Planning and Technology for organizing a thought-provoking and intellectually enriching event.
